Newsclick case: “Newsclick was spreading fake news with crores of rupees” claimed by Delhi Police

Debjit Mukherjee: Newsclick founder Praveer Purkayastha has been arrested by Delhi Police’s counter-terrorism wing. Journalist Amit Chakraborty was also arrested. They are currently in 7 days jail custody. In this situation, it was learned that the Delhi Police claimed in their FIR that Newsclick was spreading fake news with crores of rupees from various foreign companies. Among these foreign companies are telecom companies like Xiaomi and Vivo.

The complaint further states that a big agenda of that news portal was not to show Arunachal Pradesh and Kashmir as a part of India! According to the Delhi Police, they have found evidence of email exchange between Praveer Purkayastha and US tycoon Singhom. It discussed how to create maps that show Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh as ‘disputed territories’. According to the police, the two accused, Prabir and Amit, received Rs 115 crore for making the faulty map of the country.
