Petrol bomb hurled at main gate of Tamil Nadu’s Raj Bhavan

Debjit Mukherjee: A man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly throwing petrol bombs at the main gate of Tamil Nadu’s Raj Bhavan, which is the official residence of the state Governor RN Ravi.

The incident happened at around 2:45 pm, when the man, identified as Karuka Vinoth, threw two petrol bombs at the main gate of Raj Bhavan.

According to the police, Vinoth had stolen petrol from the motorcycles that were parked on the premises of Saidapet Court, after which he walked towards Raj Bhavan where he poured the petrol into two bottles, set them on fire and threw it at the main gate of Raj Bhavan.

The police team deployed at the main gate stopped him before he could hurl two more bottles of petrol, police added.

In 2022, Vinoth was also arrested for throwing petrol bombs at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in Chennai and was released just three days back.

Reacting to the incident, Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai said, “Petrol bombs were hurled at Raj Bhavan today, reflects the true law and order situation in Tamil Nadu. While DMK is busy diverting the attention of people to insignificant matters of interest, criminals have taken the streets,” in a post on X.

“Incidentally, it is the same person who attacked BJP’s Tamil Nadu headquarters in Chennai in Feb 2022 is held responsible for the attack on Raj Bhavan today. These continuous attacks only leave one to think that the DMK government is sponsoring these attacks. Thiru MK Stalin will now be preparing for the next diversion, as he always does,” he added.
