Debjit Mukherjee: The Supreme Court on Tuesday extended the interim bail granted to Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair till further orders in a case in which he was booked by the Uttar Pradesh Police in Sitapur for hurting religious sentiments through tweets in which he called some Hindu seers “hate mongers”. The court will hear the matter again on September 7.
The Uttar Pradesh government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Tuesday to look into the cases against Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair. According to sources, the two-member SIT would be headed by Inspector General (IG) of Police Preetinder Singh, with Deputy Inspector General of Police Amit Kumar Verma as the other team member.
