‘160 year old skeleton recovery mystery’ solved! Dead were soldiers participated in Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, says DNA reports

News Desk: Finally, the 2014 ‘160 year old skeleton recovery mystery’ is solved. Genetic researchers at the Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology in Hyderabad analysed the DNA and said that the dead were soldiers of the 26th Bengal Infantry Battalion, which had participated in the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857.

It is learned that Birbal Sahni Institute, Punjab University, Benaras Hindu University and Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology jointly conducted research in this regard. The researchers also said that although the skeletons were found in Punjab, the dead were not residents of Punjab or Pakistan, but their DNA sequences matched with Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Orissa and West Bengal.
