A plea in the Supreme Court has sought permission for the disciples and followers of Lord Shiva to pray to the Shivling found inside Gyanvapi mosque

Debjit Mukherjee: A plea in the Supreme Court has sought permission for the disciples and followers of Lord Shiva to pray to the Shivling reportedly found inside the wazukhana or reservoir in the Gyanvapi mosque complex during a court-ordered survey.

The petitioner, i.e., the president of the Shri Krishna Janma Bhumi Mukti Dal , in it’s petition said “We would like to carry out religious practices on the Shivling as guaranteed under the Constitution. Although the Shivling is protected by court orders, there are no restrictions for the devotees of Lord Shiva to offer prayers and perform rituals at the place. Wazu is being performed near the Shivling and it is painful for the followers of Lord Shiva. It has been revealed from various records that the Gyanvapi Mosque was built after demolishing a Shiv temple. The Shivling was found on the same premises during the survey. Therefore, being a worshipper, if Shivling is there, the applicant’s rights to worship also survives”.
