Protesting job-aspirant holding national flag beaten mercilessly by Additional District Magistrate in Patna

Debjit Mukherjee: In a shocking video that has surfaced from Bihar’s capital city, a protesting job-aspirant holding the national flag was beaten mercilessly in the middle of the road by the Additional District Magistrate (law and order). The video of the incident has gone viral on social media and has received huge backlash from netizens.

The ADM, K K Singh brutally beats the young student who is lying helplessly on the road and is seen trying to hide his face using the national flag. The flag is then snatched from him by a cop who folds and holds on to it. The victim was a part of students who have protesting against their unemployment. The student has been admitted to a hospital after he faced injuries on his head and face.

Hundreds of aspiring teachers were also lathicharged in the city on the same day as they protested against the delay in their recruitment.

Sharing the video on Twitter, the Bihar BJP official handle slammed the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government and the ADM, saying that the state has handed over a pen to a person who is used to firing guns. “Is this government blind, which sticks on the tricolour, is this government deaf? For one it is a hobby, for one it is fun and for the public, it is a compulsion,” tweeted Bihar BJP.

Sharing a video of the injured student, the Bihar Teacher Candidate’s Association tweeted, “The teacher candidate, who reached Patna from his village in the hope of getting a job, is lying in Besud Hospital injured by the barbaric sticks of the police.”

Taking note of the incident, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav has said that he has spoke to the ADM involved and ordered an inquiry into the matter. A committee under the supervision of Patna Central SP and DDC has been formed and action will be taken on the concerned officer if found guilty, informed Yadav on his Twitter handle.
