Debjit Mukherjee: Big setback for CBI and huge relief for Anubrata Mondal in connection with the Bengal post-poll violence. The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, made it clear that CBI can’t take any major action against him. The central investigation agency can’t take Mondal into their own custody.
On the other hand, another big setback for CBI in the teacher recruitment scam case. CBI can’t arrest former primary education board president Manik Bhattacharya and the order to remove him from the post of Chairman of the Board of Primary Education has also been suspended. However, the apex court did not issue any order regarding the arrest by ED. As a result, Manik Bhattacharya has to remain in the custody of ED for the time being.
