Debjit Mukherjee, Kolkata: “Bengal is the best in increase in the income of farmers” says Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar. The Indian Council of Agriculture in its report said that the income of small farmers in West Bengal increased by more than 200 percent in 2020-21 compared to 2016-17.
The report also said “Income of large farmers increased by 377 percent in Bengal during this period. Horticulture and animal husbandry played a major role in increasing farmers’ income, not only paddy cultivation. Apart from West Bengal, the overall income of farmers in Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh and Puducherry increased by more than 200 percent in the last five years. In other states there has been 150 to 200 per cent growth”.
