Calcutta HC quashed FIR against Mithun Chakraborty over his controversial speech during Bengal assembly election campaigning

News Desk: The Calcutta High Court on Thursday quashed an FIR filed against veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty over an alleged controversial speech he made during the hotly contested West Bengal elections earlier this year.

The bench, headed by Justice Kaushik Chanda, stayed further probe into the matter.

Earlier, Mithun Chakraborty had filed a petition seeking the quashing of the FIR filed against him. He was also called for interrogation by Kolkata Police.

While quashing the FIR, the judge said that it is not proved that movie dialogues delivered by Mithun Chakraborty incited violence. Earlier, Kaushik Chanda also observed that movie dialogues cannot bring unrest.
