Manipur violence: Protests in Imphal West, 15 injured

Debjit Mukherjee: Again image of violence in Manipur. It is known that five youths were arrested for the crime of keeping firearms and army clothes with them last Saturday. Protests continued for four-five days demanding the release of the detainees. The accused were granted bail in a special court in Imphal on Friday morning. But one of them was arrested again by the security forces as he was a member of the banned ‘People’s Liberation Army’.

After that, common people started protesting in Imphal West. Protests were shown by burning tyres on the streets. Police fired several rounds of tear gas to control the open crowd. 15 people were injured in the clash.
