Congress MPs staged walkout after Nirmala Sitharaman’s reply on price hike

Debjit Mukherjee: Out of pressure from the opposition, the Center started discussing the price hike in Parliament on Monday. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s reply on this day could not satisfy the opposition. As a result, Congress MPs staged a walkout from the Lok Sabha alleging that the government’s response was ‘not satisfactory’.

She said “There is no reason to think that the country is on the path of financial recession or in the trap of hyperinflation. Despite major events like the Corona epidemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, we have been able to keep the inflation rate at or below 7 percent. Currently, the retail inflation rate is 7 percent. But It had gone up to 9 per cent during the UPA era. But food prices are coming under control across the world. So prices will come down in India as well”.

Expressing displeasure with the government’s response, Congress MPs staged a walkout from the Lok Sabha. Congress MP Manish Tiwari raised voice against BJP. He alleged that the BJP government at the Center had damaged the country’s economy through measures like demonetisation and GST.
