West Bengal: Three detained Jharkhand Congress legislators arrested and remanded in CID custody for 10 days

Debjit Mukherjee, Howrah: The West Bengal police on Sunday arrested the three Jharkhand Congress legislators – Jamtara legislator Irfan Ansari, Rajesh Kachhap, legislator from Khijri, and Naman Bixal, MLA from Kolebira – who were detained on Saturday for carrying ₹49 lakh in cash in their SUV that was stopped in Howrah district.

The case was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department and a Howrah court remanded the legislators in their custody for 10 days after they were produced in court in the afternoon. They were charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including criminal conspiracy, and sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. It was found that they flew to Guwahati on Friday and returned to Kolkata on Saturday.
