Former Bengal footballer Subhash Bhowmik expired

News Desk: After a long fight with diabetes and kidney disease, a gem of football world Subhash Bhowmik passed away. His age was 72.

Due to rise in corona cases, his body was not allowed to roam around Maidan. It has been ordered that only five members of his family are allowed to do his last rites at Nirmala burial ground.

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee took to Twitter to express her grief. She said “Deeply grieved that stalwart footballer, coach Subhas Bhowmick is no more. 1970 Asian Games medallist, celebrated footballer in Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, representing the country in international tournaments & coached successfully big three clubs of Kolkata, he was a legend”

In another tweet, she said “Our Govt had conferred on him Kriraguru award in 2013. His passing away will create a big void in the world of sports. My deep condolences to his family, friends, followers and football enthusiasts”
