Debjit Mukherjee: Prime minister Narendra Modi laid foundation stone of cricket stadium in Varanasi. Cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, BCCI President Roger Binny, Secretary Jai Shah were also present.

PM Modi said, “This stadium is dedicated to Mahadev himself. Its design is also dedicated to Mahadev himself. One cricket match after another will be held in this stadium. The youth of the neighborhood will get an opportunity to practice cricket. Varanasi will benefit from this. From the day the picture of this stadium came out, the people of Kashi were excited, I know that. Having such a big stadium will also have a huge impact on the economy of Kashi. From hotels to boatmen, everyone will have laddoos. Varanasi will now have a sports industry.”

He also said, “Today new countries of the world are playing cricket. Cricket matches will increase. If the matches increase, there will be a need for a new stadium. This stadium in Varanasi will meet that requirement. BCCI is also helping to build this stadium. The government’s policy is increasing the interest of the countrymen in sports. Once parents used to scold children, should they always play sports or not. Times are changing now. Children used to take sports seriously. Now parents are also very serious about sports. Now the mood of the country is changing. Whoever plays will laugh.”
