Republic Day: Calcutta HC dismisses PIL over cancellation of Bengal government’s tableau

News Desk: The Calcutta HC on Monday dismissed a PIL filed by Advocate Ram Prasad Sarkar in connection with the cancellation of Bengal government’s tableau for the Republic Day parade in Delhi.

In the order, the bench said “As the Republic Day celebration is day after tomorrow, therefore, at this stage, no effective direction can be issued. Hence, no case for interference in the present writ petition is made out, which is accordingly dismissed”

Center rejected Bengal government’s tableau

The ruling TMC government of Bengal had sent a tableau for the Republic Day parade in Delhi based on the theme of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s 125th birth anniversary and 75 years of independence. It was rejected by the center.

Shocked at the decision, chief minister Mamata Banerjee wrote a letter to PM Modi requesting him to reconsider the decision.

Responding to the letter, defence minister Rajnath Singh wrote that keeping in mind the contribution Netaji, the government has decided to kickstart Republic Day celebrations from January 23, his birth anniversary.
