West Bengal: Chopper attack by accountant on principal and other college employees

News Desk: Four employees of a college in Bongaon, including the principal, were injured after the accountant attacked them with a chopper on Monday afternoon. The accused, accountant Ranapati Roy, was arrested. Police suspect the attack was a fallout of an allegation of misappropriation of college fund accounts levelled against Roy.

According to local sources, the incident took place at Nahata Jogendranath Mondal Srimiti Mahavidyala around 12.30pm during an altercation between college principal Arnab Ghosh and accountant Roy inside the office. “Roy locked my office room from inside and started beating me. I screamed for help, hearing which other college staff broke into my office to resist Roy. But he took out a chopper like sharp weapon from his bag and attacked us” said Ghosh.

College staff managed to stop him but were already injured by Roy’s chopper. A police team from Gopalnagar PS rushed to the college and arrested him with the weapon. “We are trying to find out how he got the chopper” a senior district police officer said.
