Mamata Banerjee versus Congress – Two sides of the story

News Desk: When it comes to national politics these days, it’s no more all about Gandhi family’s Indian National Congress (INC) versus BJP-RSS. After massive success in the Bengal assembly election 2021, TMC supremo and chief minister of the state, Mamata Banerjee is becoming a major Opposition face against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the center.

With increasing popularity, her party’s expansion at the national level has also attracted attention. But more than that, the centre of discussion is on her war against BJP and battle against the Congress, especially the latter.

Some views this random attack of her on the Congress as a sign of national unity hampering. While others supporting this attack of her. But on a clear note, there might be two sides of the story.

Mamata Banerjee might open a new political front of her

One side of the story shows that the TMC supremo is aiming to create a national political front to counter the BJP.

Uttar Pradesh’s Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav backed her in this. At Jhansi, the Samajwadi Party chief welcomed Mamata Banerjee’s initiative. He said “I welcome Mamata Banerjee; the way she finished the BJP in Bengal, the SP will finish the BJP in Uttar Pradesh”.

But most of the Opposition parties are not supporting this move. For example, the Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamna’ said that this move of her will destroy opposition unity and made it clear that no major opposition is possible without Congress

But on a neutral point, a new political front will make things more smooth for the saffron party in the form of division of Opposition votes.

Moreover, opposing the Congress and breaking it won’t be a smart move to counter the BJP. The Shiv Sena also said that the Congress still commands a 20 per cent vote share in India and has a pan India standing and takes on the BJP alone in nearly 200 seats.

Random attacks is a way to help Congress to improve its lost national reputation

If you look on the other side of the story, this might be a planned move by both the TMC and Congress.

In recent days, the Congress was successful in defeating the BJP in few states and moreover they are struggling to deal with the saffron influence at the national level.

As Mamata Banerjee’s influence is increasing, her attacks at the Congress might be a reverse strategy to bring the importance of the Congress in the limelight. This conflict might be a ploy to boost both the TMC and Congress’ national importance and before the 2024 Lok Sabha Election, we might see inclusion of the TMC in the Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA).

So overall, anything can be possible from this situation. But formation of a new political front will only help the BJP. Inclusion of TMC in UPA might not provide immediate results, but it will surely help to reduce the saffron influence to a great extent.
