News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who cancelled his visit to West Bengal for the last leg of his campaign on Friday, addressed the state voters virtually. He reiterated BJP’s promise to bring about ‘Asol Poriborton’ in West Bengal. “These polls are not just to change a government but it is for the aspirational Bengal. People across the state want to see the state return to its old glory days.”
“Be it villages or cities, I can see yearning for a better life, better education, better employment and better option everywhere,” the prime minister said. “West Bengal is waiting for such a governance where every department of the government works honestly and carries out its duty. A state free of discrimination and full of harmony, West Bengal is voting for such a government,” the prime minister said addressing rallies in Suri, Malda, Berhampore and Bhawanipur via video conferencing.
PM Modi promised that if brought to power, BJP will use technology to transform Kolkata, the ‘city of joy’, to city of future.
Highlighting the problems in the state, Modi said illegal immigration, syndicates and extortion are hurdles to the state’s development. He further promised the state that BJP will set up fast track courts across West Bengal for providing speedy justice to women.
The prime minister also apologised to the people of West Bengal for being unable to visit the state. “Given the COVID-19 situation in the country, I have been holding many meetings since the morning. I am sorry that I could not be with you in Bengal,” he said.
Expressing gratitude towards the voters for their support, Modi said, “I came to you with a message of ‘Asol Poriborton’ and you have blessed me and BJP with high voter turn out…I thank you for this.”
The prime minister addressed the voters of West Bengal, particularly those in Malda, Murshidabad, Birbhum and Kolkata, at 5 pm today.
Earlier, the prime minister was scheduled to physically attend four public meetings across four districts and 56 assembly constituencies. After the BJP decided to call off all big political meetings and rallies in view of rising COVID-19 cases and restrict its campaign to a maximum of 500 people in the state, Modi’s proposed meetings for Saturday were clubbed with his Friday campaign.
