Bajrang Dal equated Valentines Day with love jihad

News Desk: As in the case every year, the Bajrang Dal has once again appealed to the youth to boycott Valentine’s day celebrations in Kolkata.

The Hindu fringe group Bajrang Dal released posters stating how Valentine’s Day “is against Indian culture”. They also threatened to marry off any couple seen indulging in “any obscene activity in an open space”.

“Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad is requesting all to not do anything uncouth in public places. If a couple is seen indulging in such activities, they will be made to marry each other with the consent of their parents,” read the poster.

Bajrang Dal’s poster also emphasized the need for a law on ‘love jihad’ in West Bengal.

The notice read that if and when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) forms the government in West Bengal, they would urge the government to bring a law on ‘love jihad’.

Equating Valentine’s Day celebrations with ‘love jihad’, the fringe group suggested that the law will be made in Bengal to “develop the character of young men and women”.

However, there were no reports of couples being forcibly married on Valentine’s Day in West Bengal.
