BJP accused TMC of beating BJP worker and his mother; TMC denied allegations

News Desk: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker and his mother were attacked at his residence in West Bengal on Friday. The BJP has accused Trinamool Congress of carrying out the attack. However, TMC leadership has refuted the allegations.

What happened?

BJP activist Gopal Majumdar was attacked by unknown miscreants at his residence in Ward 7 of North Dumdum area on Friday. As per the accusations, the assailants broke down the door of Gopal’s house and beat him with the butt of a gun. His 85-year-old mother was also allegedly beaten. The BJP has claimed that several party workers in the area have been attacked earlier.

Soon after the incident, BJP workers rushed to Gopal’s house and a complaint was filed at the Nimata Police Station. Gopal was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The incident led to tension in the area. Police were deployed in the area at night as a precautionary measure.

BJP worker accuses TMC of being behind the attack

The aggrieved BJP worker said, “On Friday night, some men broke down the door of my house with sticks and entered inside. They yelled at me for being with BJP and started beating me. The butt of their revolver hit the back of my head. Then I fell to the ground and my chest and abdomen pained. I don’t know who carried out the attack, but they must be TMC thugs. I lodged a complaint with the police”.

While speaking to ANI on Sunday, Gopal Majumdar’s mother said, “They hit me on my head and neck and punched me. They hit me on my face too. I’m scared, they asked me not to tell anyone about it. My whole body is in pain.”

TMC denies allegations

However, the Trinamool Congress has denied the allegations.

Nirmal Ghosh, Bengal TMC MLA from Panihati Assembly Constituency said that the incident is a domestic matter between family members and has nothing to do with TMC.

“We have found that the incident in North Dudum’s Nimta area is a family matter and the fighting happened among family members. It is their internal matter. TMC has nothing to do with this incident. It does not suit the BJP to make such false allegations on TMC,” said Ghosh.

He added that the victim is not an important leader of BJP and the one accused of carrying out the attack is also not linked to TMC in any manner.

The local Trinamool Congress leadership said, “This allegation is completely false. Such incidents have not happened anywhere in North Dumdum. After the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Nirmal Kundu, the president of our 7th ward, was assassinated. The BJP is trying to take over this ward by bringing in people from outside.”

Police pickets have been set up in the area after the incident.
