Debjit Mukherjee: The Center has decided to reduce the price of cooking gas by Rs 200 before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. After about one and a half years, the price of LPG cylinders come below Rs 1000. Besides, customers under Ujjwala Yojana will get additional subsidy benefit of Rs 200 upto 12 cylinders per year. That comes to a total subsidy of Rs 400. Political circles think that this decision will give dividends at the vote box.
