News Desk: Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait, in his maiden visit to Odisha, reiterated his demand for withdrawal of farm laws and said there will be no compromise on minimum support price (MSP).
Rakesh Tikait on Friday held a Mahapanchayat in Chandikhol, 50 kms from Odisha’s Bhubaneswar and urged people to support the farmers agitation against the three agricultural laws by Centre.
Tikait also urged the ruling BJD government in Odisha to support the farmers’ stir to withdraw the farm laws.
Rakesh Tikait reached Bhubaneswar at 11: 00 am and was received by Akshaya Kumar, national convenor of Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS), Congress MLA Mohhamed Moquim and senior activist Rabi Das. After reaching Bhubaneswar, Tikait headed straight to Chandikhol to attend Kisan Mahapanchayat.
Hundreds of farmers had gathered at Chandikhol in Jajpur district to attend the Mahapanchayat.
Speaking at the Mahapanchayat, Tikait highlighted the issues of farmers across the country and said that farm laws introduced by the Centre are “black laws” and these need to be withdrawn at the earliest.
“I thank each farmer from Odisha who participated in our mass ongoing agitation in Delhi. This is and will continue to make a big impact,” Tikait said.
Tikait said that the MSP is sacrosanct and under no circumstances, the protesting farmers would compromise with it. “MSP will benefit farmers all throughout the country,” Tikait said.
Tikait said the protesting farmers are prepared to continue their agitation till coming winter if the central government do not withdraw farm laws.
BKU leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni, who was also present at the Mahapanchayat, said the fight is for economic freedom. “The Centre is acting as an agent of capitalists. All assets of the nation are on sale. The economy is in distress,” Chaduni said.
