“I am going for the Samajwadi Party”: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee

News Desk: TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said she would go the Uttar Pradesh to support Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and that she wants the ruling BJP to lose the polls.

“I am going for the Samajwadi Party. Akhilesh has invited me. I want Akhilesh to win” Mamata Banerjee said.

“I want everyone to support the fight which Akhilesh is fighting. I want the BJP to lose” she added.

Mamata Banerjee also said that she would go to Varanasi in the last phase of the UP election. “I will also go to Shiv temple and offer prayer” she said.

The TMC, which is not contesting the UP polls, has decided to lend support to the Samajwadi Party. Mamata Banerjee will hold a virtual rally with Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow on February 8. The rally will be followed by a joint press conference.

When asked about the controversy over Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan offering a dua during Lata Mangeshkar’s funeral, Mamata Banerjee said “Shah Rukh is our Bengal’s ambassador. He can go anywhere. We are democratic country”.

Shah Rukh Khan was seen offering prayers for Lata Mangeshkar and blowing the air after the dua at her funeral.

Mamata Banerjee also spoke about the allegations by Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia where he said that the West Bengal government was not giving land for a second airport in Kolkata.

“Kolkata airport needs 1,000 acre land. How can we bulldoze people? We get land than we can give land” Mamata Banerjee said.

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Sunday said that the Centre has elaborate infrastructure development plans for West Bengal, including a second airport for Kolkata, but the Mamata Banerjee government has not yet provided land for it.
