News Desk: “IS gaining strength in Afghanistan! Could be a threat to the United States” said US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley.
He made the remarks in the U.S. Senate on Tuesday in the presence of U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. “Islamic State and other jihadist groups have come down to gather strength in Afghanistan, but they have not yet succeeded in that sense. And they have not become a major threat to the American mainland. But if the militants prepare to attack, they will get a strong response So far, we have destroyed a number of terrorist hideouts. They have attacked some schools and mosques, but they have not been able to gain much”.
IS is challenging Al-Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan, according to analysts. The dispute between the two is over the interpretation and doctrine of Islam.
