Mamata Banerjee Durga Idol Controversy: BJP calls it ‘attack on hindu sentiments’

News Desk: The Bharatiya Janata Party slammed West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee over ‘Durga Idol controversy’. The saffron party’s Amit Malviya said that it’s an insult to Goddess Durga and the chief minister is attacking the religious sentiments of Hindus.

Malviya said “This deification of Mamata Banerjee, who has the blood of innocent Bengalis on her hand, following the gruesome post-poll violence in Bengal, is nauseating. This is an insult to goddess Durga. Mamata Banerjee must stop this. She is hurting the sensibilities of Hindus of Bengal”

What is the Durga Idol controversy all about?

Puja committees of Kolkata, this year, will create Durga idols resembling West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee to showcase her mass benefit schemes to reach out to the marginalised sections of society.

An organizer said “Every person in Bengal considers her as Goddess Durga. The benefits she provided to people haven’t been seen in the world”
