Owaisi on Ram Mandir Bhoomi Pujan

News Desk: AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday said that by attending the Ram Mandir bhoomi pujan ceremony on August 5, Prime Minister Narendra Modi would violate his constitutional oath. Owaisi, in a tweet, reminded PM Modi that secularism was among the basic tenets of the Constitution of India.

“Attending Bhumi Pujan in official capacity will be a violation of @PMOIndia’s constitutional oath. Secularism is part of the Basic Structure of Constitution,” the AIMIM chief wrote on Twitter.

He pointed out in the same tweet that the Ram Temple will be coming up at the site where Babri Masjid stood for over 400 years before being demolished by a mob in 1992.

“We can’t forget that for over 400 years Babri stood in Ayodhya & it was demolished by a criminal mob in 1992,” Owaisi wrote.

Reacting to Owaisi’s remarks, BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli said: “If we look at Owaisi’s statements in the recent past, we realise that he is trying to stir up a controversy over Ram Temple or also attempting to do politics over religion.”

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has confirmed that PM Modi will be in attendance at the Ram Temple ground-breaking ceremony on August 5 in Ayodhya, expected to start at 11 am.

Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra trust member Swami Govind Devgiri Maharaj had also said earlier that PM Modi will be in presence during the ground-breaking ceremony of the Ram Temple.

“The PM has agreed to come to Ayodhya on August 5 for the ‘bhoomi pujan’ of Ram Temple. He will be there for one- and-a-half hours. He will first pay a visit to Hanuman Gadhi, then take darshan of Ram Lalla before taking part in the ‘bhoomi pujan’ ceremony,” Devgiri Maharaj, also known as Kishorji Vyas, had said.

“Earlier, they had decided that the PM will do the ‘bhoomi pujan’ online. But I insisted that he (PM) should come there in person and perform the ceremony. And Modi ji accepted it,” he had added.

“Modi ji had sought two dates. So his office was informed about two dates- July 29 and August 5. Finally he gave consent to August 5.”

The Prime Minister’s Office has yet to officially confirm that PM Modi would be attending the ceremony.
