Shiv Sena slammed Javed Akhtar for comparing RSS with Taliban

News Desk: The ruling Shiv Sena of Maharashtra slammed lyricist Javed Akhtar for his controversial remarks on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The Sena mouthpiece Saamna said that comparing RSS and VHP with Taliban means disrespecting Hindu sentiments and Hindu culture. It also said that Hindutva is a culture for RSS and VHP and they want to make sure the rights of Hindus don’t get suppressed.

Saamna said “These days, some people are comparing anyone with the Taliban as it is the biggest threat to the society and mankind. Pakistan and China, which are not democracies, are backing the Taliban in Afghanistan because human rights do not have any place in these two countries. However, we are a democratic nation where an individual’s freedom is respected. Hence, it is erroneous to compare the RSS with the Taliban. India is tremendously tolerant in every way”

“Hindutva is a culture for organisations like RSS and VHP. They want that the rights of the Hindus should not be suppressed. Moreover, they have never imposed any restrictions on women’s rights. The situation in Afghanistan, however, is gut-wrenching. People fled from their country out of fear, and women’s rights are being suppressed” it added.

The paper described “Javed Akhtar is someone who is known for his outspoken statements and has also attacked extremist views of the Muslim society. However, comparing the Sangh with the Taliban is not acceptable. Most people in our country are secular and will not accept the Taliban’s ideology. India is proudly secular despite Hindus being the majority community”

Javed Akhtar’s controversial remarks on RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal

Well known lyricist and writer Javed Akhtar on Friday said that the mentality of those supporting RSS, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal is the same as that of Taliban.

Akhtar said “There is no doubt that the Taliban are barbaric and their actions are condemnable. But those who support the RSS, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, and the Bajrang Dal are also like that”

“There’s a similarity between Taliban and those who behave like them. I was shocked when I came to know that some Muslims in the country welcomed their rise to power. Most of the Muslims I spoke to were surprised that some people made such statements. In India, Muslims want good employment, good education, and good schools for their children. But, on the other hand, there are some who believe in such narrow thinking- where women and men are treated differently and backwards thinking is kept” he added.

He also said “No matter how many radical ideologies are there in India, but India can never become Taliban as majority here is secular. They are civilised and respect each other”
