Sikh groups rallied against assault on Balwinder Singh

News Desk: Sikh groups rallied to protest the assault on Balwinder Singh by West Bengal police. At the “Nabanna Chalo’ protest, a Sikh man named Balwinder Singh was caught by police. During the process of overpowering, his turban fell down and this created a controversy in the state. The incident was given communal color by the arch rival of the TMC government Bharatiya Janata Party. They claimed that such an act would hurt religious sentiments of the Sikhs. The people in the rally chanted “CM Mamata Banerjee, please explain why the turban of a Sikh has been pulled by your police.

After investigation it was found out that the Sikh man was a former Indian army, named Balwinder Singh. He currently works as a private security officer of a BJP leader. Now keeping the religious sentiment in mind, the West Bengal police tweeted “The concerned person was carrying firearms in yesterday’s protest. The Pagri had fallen off automatically in the scuffle that ensued, without any attempt to do so by our officer (visible in the video attached). It is never our intention to hurt the sentiments of any community”

They also added “West Bengal Police respects all religions. The officer specifically asked him to put his Pagri back before the arrest. The attached photo has been clicked right before he was escorted to the Police Station. We remain committed to our duty to uphold law and order in the state”
