Suvendu Adhikari resigned from TMC

News Desk: Suvendu Adhikari has resigned from the primary membership of Trinamool Congress. In a letter to TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, Adhikari said, “I am writing to tender my resignation as a member of TMC as well as from all positions held by me in the party and its associate organs with immediate effect.”

“I am thankful for all the challenges and opportunities that have been afforded to me and I will always value my time spent as a member of the party,” he wrote.

Adhikari is set to join the BJP in Amit Shah’s rally this Saturday in West Bengal.

Following his resignation from the party, two more TMC leaders announced their departure from the Trinamool Congress.

Chairman of South Bengal State Transport Corporation (SBSTC) Colonel (Retired) Diptangshu Choudhary tendered his resignation to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while party leader Jitendra Tiwari resigned from the post of Chairman, Board of Administrators, Asansol Municipal Corporation.

Suvendu had resigned from state cabinet last month

On Wednesday, Adhikari – who was the face of the Nandigram movement which catapulted Mamata to power in West Bengal in 2011 – resigned as an MLA.

The TMC MLA of Nandigram constituency in Purba Medinipur district had resigned from the state cabinet last month, reported.

Adhikari is reportedly unhappy over growing clout of election strategist Prashant Kishor and Abhishek Banerjee, Lok Sabha MP from Diamond Harbour and nephew of the Chief Minister in the decision making the process of the party.

Reacting on Adhikari’s resignation, Speaker of West Bengal Legislative Assembly Biman Banerjee said, “I have received Suvendu Adhikari’s resignation letter from my secretariat. I have examined it and will issue a detailed order. Till then it would be wrong to say that it has been accepted or rejected.”

To join BJP this Saturday in presence of Amit Shah

Earlier, Adhikari held a closed-door meeting with disgruntled leaders including Asansol civic body chief Jitendra Tiwari and senior MP Sunil Mandal at the latter’s residence at Kanksa area in Paschim Bardhaman district.

While senior TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee termed Adhikari’s resignation as a “good relief”, BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya called it the “beginning of the end” of the ruling party which would now collapse like a house of cards.

Sources told that the former TMC leader will not join the BJP alone and several other MLAs, ministers and MPs are in touch with him.

Meanwhile, Chairman of South Bengal State Transport Corporation (SBSTC) Col. (R) Diptangshu Choudhary also tendered his resignation to Mamta Banerjee today.
