Gujarat: 28 people died due to poisonous liquor

Debjit Mukherjee: In Gujarat, 28 people have died due to poisonous liquor – most of them from villages in Ahmedabad and Botad districts. Many more are sick. Most of those who are sick are in critical condition. Police have arrested several people for illegally preparing and selling alcohol. The state government has ordered a full inquiry into the incident and a SIT has been constituted.

The opposition has also slammed the incident. Congress MLA Amit Chhabra said “The local police used to take bribes every month. BJP is directly associated with the illegal liquor dealers”. AAP chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also strongly condemned the incident. He said “The order to stop the sale of liquor has only been given in writing. If we were in power, we would have made it a reality”. Kejriwal might visit the sick in the hospital.
