Arnab Goswami’s arrest raises questions

News Desk: The Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami got arrested by the Maharashtra police on Wednesday on charges of abetment to suicide of Anvay Naik in 2018. A video clip went viral where the Maha cops dragged him from his room. Another case was filed against him for tearing the paper. In the court he said that the cops assaulted him but the court ruled that out and sent him for a 14 day custody.

On this Union Home Minister Amit Shah took to twitter to criticize the incident and labelled it as ‘black day’ and ‘attack on the freedom of press’. Other union ministers criticized the arrest too.

An editorial in Sena mouthpiece ”Saamana” slammed the BJP for criticising the arrest. They claimed

A journalist was arrested in Gujarat for writing against the state government, while in Uttar Pradesh, journalists have been killed.

Nobody felt these incidents were reminders of the Emergency. In fact, the state BJP leaders should demand justice for Anvay Naik, a son of the soil.

An innocent man died by suicide along with his aged mother. The dead man’s wife is demanding justice and the police are following the law.

Where is the question of the fourth pillar being attacked? Those who are saying this are attempting to trample the first pillar.

Everyone including prime ministers are equal before the law of the land”

The editor-in-chief’s arrest has made a hashtag on social media #IStandwithArnab while other sections are supporting his arrest. Now it raises two important questions

1. Amit Shah ji’s tweet raises a question ‘Is Arnab more a BJP spokesperson than journalist?”

2. The claims made by ”Saamana’ also went against BJP ‘Is BJP a real believer of freedom of press?’
