Bangladesh violence: PM Sheikh Hasina ordered strict action against rioters

News Desk: Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina, on Tuesday, instructed her home minister to initiate immediate strict action against those who incited violence using religion as she asked the people not to trust anything on social media without fact-checking.

Cabinet secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed home minister Asaduzzaman Khan to initiate immediate action against those who incited violence using religion. The Cumilla incident is being investigated. What really happened will be known soon”

“Prime Minister has announced to provide all possible aid to the affected families” he added.

The foreign ministry statement underlined that the government of Bangladesh “unequivocally condemned those incidents and took serious note of the reactions from within and outside the Hindu community”. Regrettably, it said, the domestic elements that opposed Bangladesh’s independence from Pakistan 50 year ago were still propagating their “toxic narratives to instigate violence, hatred and bigotry”.
