Bengal coal scam case: Non-bailable warrant against Vinay Mishra

News Desk: A Delhi court has issued a non-bailable warrant against TMC youth leader Vinay Mishra in connection with coal smuggling and cattle smuggling cases.

Earlier in January, on the request of the CBI, a designated court in Kolkata had issued a non-bailable warrant against Vinay Mishra. He failed to join the investigation despite four summons each by the CBI and the ED. The investigators had earlier raided multiple locations in West Bengal, including the premises of Mishra. A lookout notice was also issued against Vinay Mishra last year.

Vinay Mishra’s brother Vikas was arrested by the ED in the coal smuggling case in March this year. The financial probe agency has alleged that over Rs 700 crore, generated through the alleged coal smuggling, was transferred and diverted to certain politicians in West Bengal.

Vinay Mishra gave up Indian citizenship during probe

Vinay Mishra surrendered his Indian citizenship and took up the citizenship of Vanuatu, an island nation in the South Pacific Ocean, documents accessed have revealed.

Documents have been accessed from the Ministry of External Affairs and citizenship documents from the Consulate of India in the UAE.

Vinay Mishra allegedly surrendered his citizenship while the CBI and the ED were investigating his role in coal and cattle smuggling scams.
