Bengal flash floods: PM Modi and CM Mamata Banerjee announced ex-gratia

Debjit Mukherjee, Kolkata: Eight persons were found dead and several others went missing on October 05 due to sudden rise in water level in Mal river of Jalpaiguri district, West Bengal during Idol Immersion on the occasion of Dussehra. Further search operation is underway. Dussehra was celebrated on October 05 across India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for every next of kin of the eight people who lost their lives, after being swept away due to flash floods in the Mal river in Jalpaiguri district during idol immersion of Goddess Durga.
