War of words between Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray

Debjit Mukherjee: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said during a rally at BKC’s MMRDA grounds that the Shiv Sena does not belong to Uddhav Thackeray or himself, but to the thoughts of Bal Thackeray. He said that true ‘gaddari’ happened in 2019, when then Sena put photos of Bal Thackeray and PM Narendra Modi side by side on banners and people voted thinking it will be a coalition.

Addressing a public rally at the historic Shivaji Park in Mumbai’s Dadar, former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray launched a blistering attack on his successor Eknath Shinde, calling him a “traitor”. Referring to an alleged offer of Rs 50 crore to MLAs to switch sides, Uddhav said: “This year’s Ravan is different. Ravan used to have 10 heads. But this Ravan has 50.” While the Uddhav Thackeray faction’s rally is being held at the historic Shivaji Park in Dadar in central Mumbai, a venue associated with the Shiv Sena since its inception in 1966, the rebel group led by Shinde has organised their event at the MMRDA ground at BKC. The MMRDA ground is located close to ‘Matoshree’, the private residence of the Thackeray family in Bandra.
