Birth rate of daughters is gradually decreasing in Gobalay compared to sons

Debjit Mukherjee: “The birth rate of daughters is gradually decreasing in Gobalay compared to sons” Union Women and Child Welfare Minister Smriti Irani YSR Congress gave a startling information in response to a question by YSR Congress Lok Sabha MP N Reddeppa.

According to the data, the ratio of female children per thousand male children was 946 in Rajasthan during the three fiscal years 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23. Apart from this, except Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, the remaining six states and two Union Territories have seen a decrease in the birth rate of daughters compared to sons in 2022-23 as compared to 2020-21. Two years ago, in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, the birth rate of girls was 932 and 940, respectively, compared to every thousand boys, which increased slightly to 936 and 944 in the last financial year.

The two union territories of Chandigarh and Delhi had birth rates of 935 and 927 girls per 1,000 boys in FY 2020-21, which decreased quite a bit to 902 and 916 last time. In Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Haryana and Chhattisgarh, this rate was 944, 939, 917, 935, 927 and 965 respectively in FY 2020-21, which decreased in the last financial year to 932, 932, 895, 934, 918, 958 respectively. Bihar has seen the largest drop in female birth rates compared to male births (22). On the contrary, only Ladakh has more female children per thousand male children. It has increased to 1023 compared to (973) in FY 2020-21.
