Debjit Mukherjee: Controversial Delhi Ordinance Bill becomes law. It is known that 131 MPs voted in favor of the bill. 101 voted against it. The bill was passed. This time President Draupadi Murmu’s approval was received.
It may be noted that since 2018, AAP had been fighting in the Supreme Court against the limitations of the Delhi government. A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said the real administrative power should rest with the elected government and the cabinet. Following this directive, the Modi government brought this ordinance amending the National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991.
