BJP leaders chased away and allegedly assaulted by protesting farmers in Patiala district

News Desk: On Sunday, a BJP leader was chased away by a group of protesting farmers in Patiala district where the party was carrying a meeting. Farmers raised anti BJP slogans and they carried black flags and chased local leader Shanti Sapra down the street.

He said “Police tried to protect me but my clothes got torn”. Others took refuge in a house and a BJP leader alleged he was assaulted and his life is under threat.

BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh said “It is a daylight murder of democracy under the Congress-led regime in Punjab”

“Under the garb of farmers, they are trying to throttle the voice of the BJP in the state” he added.

The police said that they had deployed adequate personnel and the BJP leaders were taken out safely. The leaders were detained for nearly 12 hours by the farmers and were released early Monday following a Punjab and Haryana High Court order, officials said.
