BJP SP workers clashed in several districts, Akhilesh Yadav and Priyanka Gandhi slammed Yogi government

News Desk: BJP workers and Samajwadi Party workers on Thursday clashed in several districts of Uttar Pradesh during the nominations for the block head (block pramukh) elections in 825 districts of the state.

Stones were pelted by both parties at each other. In some places, it has been alleged that police did nothing to stop the chaos. Violence was at its peak in the Kasmanda block of Sitapur. Hurling of grenades, several rounds of firing and stampede were reported. Even lathi charge from police failed to control violence.

SP leaders alleged that police and BJP workers were not allowing their candidates to file nominations. Akhilesh Yadav, chief of Samajwadi Party, tweeted a video where few men were seen pulling a woman by her saree. SP leader Ritu Singh claimed that it was her proposer. “She was my proposer. Supporters of Lokendra Pratap Singh attacked her. She was on her way to forward the nomination papers when it happened. They also tore clothes of other women who accompanied her. They tore the papers and fled” she said. Akhilesh Yadav called the accused “power hungry goons of Yogi Adityanath”

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi reacted to this episodes of violence. She took to Twitter and said “PM sahab and CM sahab should also congratulate on how their workers in UP indulged in stone pelting, firing, looting nomination papers, beating up journalists and misbehaved with women. By blindfolding the law and order system, democracy is being ripped off”
