“Blatant misuse of state power against Republic TV & Arnab Goswami”: Amit Shah

News Desk: Union Home Minister Amit Shah slammed arch rival Congress on the arrest of Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami. He took to Twitter to express his anger and criticise the arrest.

He tweeted “Congress and its allies have shamed democracy once again.

Blatant misuse of state power against Republic TV & Arnab Goswami is an attack on individual freedom and the 4th pillar of democracy.

It reminds us of the Emergency. This attack on free press must be and WILL BE OPPOSED”

The arrest was also criticised by other union ministers like Prakash Javadekar, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Smriti Irani. BJP chief JP Nadda also termed the arrest shameful.

The Republic TV issued a statement which says “ARG Outlier Media Pvt Ltd has paid over 90 per cent of the amounts due to deceased Anvay Naik’s company Concorde Designs Pvt Ltd as per the terms of the work orders issued, over two years ago. The remaining sum was to be paid on completion of the pending work which has since not been undertaken. Repeated attempts were made by ARG Outlier Media Pvt Ltd to make the balance payment to CDPL, for full and final settlement of all claims. We have full correspondence regarding this matter and proof that the absence of shareholders or directors in CDPL, has made all such attempts infructuous”
