Gujarat court removes Narendra Modi’s name from civil suit

News Desk: The 2002 Gujarat violence is considered as one of the most bloodiest riots in the history of Indian politics. Back then Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. The Modi government faced criticisms for the violence that shook the State.

The civil suit was filed in 2004 by Sameema Dawood, a British national, and others, in the local court against Narendra Modi due to violence in the State.

The court passed the order on Saturday after a lawyer S.S. Shah moved an application on behalf of Mr. Modi, contending that his name as a defendant was not legally sustainable in the suit. The names of former IPS officers K. Chakravarty, Amitabh Pathak and Ashok Narayan were also removed.
