How effective are the farm bills?

News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that farmers also contributed a lot to our nation. Their work is also highly respectful and equally stressful. So keeping their benefits and betterment in mind, he passed three farm bills – The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020. Prime Minister said that these farm bills are historic and will be beneficial for farmers and he also assured that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system will continue as before.

The farmers opposed all the three bills, especially the first one as it will make the farmers a slave of big corporates. MPs protested against these bills passed as it will bring disaster to the agricultural sector. Eight MPs of oppositions who raised their voice against these bills got suspended by Venkaiah Naidu, out of which two were from West Bengal’s All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), i.e. Derek O’Brien and Dola Sen. One from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), i.e., Sanjay Singh. Three from Congress, i.e., Rajiv Satav, Ripun Bora, and Syed Nasir Hussain. And two from Communist Party of India Marxist (CPIM), i.e., K.K. Ragesh and Elamaram Kareem.

The oppositions decided to protest both in the parliament and at the streets. Farmers in Punjab, Haryana and Bengaluru already started protesting. Effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was burnt. Roads were blocked. Copies of farm bills were burnt. Prime Minister took a dig at the oppositions and said that the farmers don’t need to worry. The oppositions are misleading them to vilify the government and get in power.
