News Desk: The Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) passed by the Indian Parliament on 11th December 2019 created a ground of injustice with Muslims, which in turn lead to a massive violence in the country. The arrests of Muslim protestors like student activist Safoora Zargar, Uttar Pradesh’s doctor Kafeel Khan and ex-JNU student leader Umar Khalid gave birth to a belief that Muslims are the main target of the Bharatiya Janata Party led central government. Though Safoora Zargar and doctor Kafeel Khan got released. Doctor Kafeel Khan started a battle against the Yogi Adityanath led to UP government. And now the victim of this tyranny is Umar Khalid, the former Democratic Students’ Union (DSU) leader in Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Khalid was arrested by the Delhi Police’s Special Cell under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). He was questioned for nearly 11 hours. The Delhi Police claimed Khalid’s conspiracy and involvement in the violence. According to them Khalid met suspended and jailed Aam Aadmi Party’s councillor Tahir Hussain and activist Khalid Saifi on January 8 at the Shaheen Bagh sit-in protest site and planned the riot. But his lawyer Trideep Pais denied his client’s participation. Police after investigation got hold of a Whatsapp chat that indicates Khalid’s active participation in the riots. Khalid’s plea of meeting his family during remand got rejected by a Delhi Court.
