“If you force people to chant Jai Shree Ram, no one will support you. They have turned it into a political slogan”: Manoj Tiwari

News Desk: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his BJP are trying to pit Hindus again Muslims to win the West Bengal Assembly election, new TMC entrant and former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary said on Wednesday.

“We saw what UP CM said in Bengal… they raised the religion bogey… they want to pit Hindus against Muslims,” Manoj Tiwary said.

“You tell me, do people not follow Lord Rama here? But if you force people to chant Jai Shree Ram, no one will support you. They have turned it into a political slogan. They want to somehow win this election by taking shelter under religion,” Manoj Tiwary said.

He further said, “Do you think any party from Bengal will go to UP and contest elections there using Allah Hu Akbar slogan? Never…. because our beliefs are not like theirs.”

“Here in Bengal, both Hindus Muslims live harmoniously. But if there are riots during the election, who will be responsible? Those who are trying to provoke communal divide will be responsible for it. Why do they not talk about development?” he asked.

He accused the BJP of failing to deliver on its promises and said this is the reason he did not join the party, when he got an offer before receiving a call from West Bengal chief minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee.

“Before Didi’s call, I had an offer from the BJP but I refused them because they have failed to deliver on their promises… where is the black money they said they will bring back? Where is the Rs 15 lakh, where are the 2 crore jobs?” Manoj Tiwary asked.

“Who will take the accountability of people’s deaths during the lockdown, or the rise in fuel prices?” he asked.

“I’ve always spoken my mind on social media… we should always raise our voice about social issues because people look up to us. It is important for us to give voice to the voiceless… there is no free environment to speak in India right now,” he said.

On being asked about the army of BJP leaders descending in Bengal, Tiwary said they are coming because they are scared of Mamata Banerjee.

“She is an epitome of struggle, inspiration and they are coming to defeat her as they know she is a real fighter… no wonder they are holding polls in 8 phases… Our party, TMC, believes in taking every community together,” he said.
