News Desk: iLEAD Films, the production vertical of The Institute of Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Development, popularly known as iLEAD, in a first of its kind initiative, is all set to launch its first commercial feature film named “Before You Die”.
The USP of the film is that it will be made in Hindi language which is a rarity to be seen in productions from Bengal. The viewpoint of iLEAD is to change the thought process about Bengal in taking lead in producing the main stream productions which are gaining popularity in these times. Not just that, the media institute has chosen the students of the college to be a part of the cast and crew including one of the leads in the film. They also believe that this is a golden opportunity for students to get hands-on experience in the art of film making and exposure in the mainstream Hindi film industry.
The film is to be directed by Suvendu Raj Ghosh. It will star veteran actors like Mukesh Rishi, Zarina Wahab and Mushtaq Khan. The film will witness the debut of actors Puneet Raj Sharma and Kavya Kashyap, who will be playing the male and female protagonists in the movie. Toshi Sabri, who is known for his hit musical numbers in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya, Housefull 3, Pyar Ka Punchnama 2, will be composing the music for the film.
Dr. Saikat Maitra, Vice Chancellor of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), commented on the great efforts of iLEAD on this occasion. He stated, “This is a unique project initiated by iLEAD to give opportunity to our students to learn and also gain practical experience. I am glad in Kolkata itself we are able to provide our talented students with such an exposure to filmmaking. It’s a great scope for creative young minds to explore their potential, learn and also polish their skills at the very beginning of their academic career”.
Mr. Pradip Chopra, Chairman of iLEAD also expressed his emotions, “The entire creative industry of India, whether it is film-making, animation, script writing, music, costume designing, is dominated by the people from Bengal. However Bengal is not a significant player in this industry apart from being a substantial resource base as there is a lack of spirit of entrepreneurship, leadership and risk taking appetite. This is a gap we want to fill thus we are venturing into production of full length Hindi commercial film. We want to involve our students because they are extremely talented. Our goal is also to make Kolkata a good production centre, a hub of film making in times to come”.
This is not the first time iLEAD is creating amazing content on their own. Previously, they have made documentaries based on major events from Indian history like ‘1971- India’s Finest Hour’ which is based on the 1971 victory of India over Pakistan and Liberation of Bangladesh. They have even made a film on the life of Indira Gandhi. iLEAD Films has also created inspiring short films like ‘Bapu’ and ‘I Can Lead’.
“Currently, we are in the process of making a documentary film which will cover the last 120 days of the transfer of power in 1947, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of our Independence”, concluded Mr. Chopra.
