Manipur violence: Information presented by state government and police

Debjit Mukherjee: In Manipur, 96 dead bodies are lying in the hospital morgue. The state government said that 175 people have been killed and 1,118 injured so far in the last four months of violence. So far 33 people are missing. Although human rights activists claim, the actual number is much higher.

Police said at least 5,172 cases of arson were reported in Manipur – 4,786 houses, 254 churches and 132 temples. 5668 weapons were looted from the government arsenal. 1,329 weapons were recovered. Besides, 15050 ammunitions and at least 400 bombs have been recovered from various places in Manipur. Atleast 360 illegal bunkers have been destroyed.
