News Desk: After the women’s cricket team, the men’s cricket team also won the gold in the Asian Games 2023 organized in China. As the final match between India and Afghanistan was called off due to rain on Saturday, India were declared champions by virtue of being at the top of the ICC rankings as per the rules of the Asian Games. Afghans got silver.
The Indian team had a good start. Indian captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and decided to field. Batting first, when Afghanistan’s score was 112 for 5 in 18 overs, the rain started. After waiting for some time, the rain did not stop. Finally, the organizers announced that the final match was abandoned.
Senior team players are also excited about the gold win of this young Indian team. Senior team captain Rohit Sharma said on the day, “I never won gold myself. Ruturaj won. Congratulations to them.” In all, India has won 27 gold medals in the Asiad so far and India’s medal tally is 102 at the moment.
