Sharad Pawar steps up to keep the India alliance intact

Debjit Mukherjee: NCP chief Sharad Pawar steps up to keep the India alliance intact. Speaking about the future of the alliance at the party’s national working committee meeting on Thursday, he said, “One candidate has to be given against one. Only then BJP can be defeated. I will go and discuss in the states where the alliance members are fighting against each other. So that there is only one candidate against the BJP in the entire country.”

It is known that he met Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge. He said, “I want CPM and Congress to fight under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee in Bengal. If Left and Congress fight against Mamata, it will send wrong message to people. This cannot be allowed. I am ready to talk to Adhir Chowdhury and Sitaram Yechury.” According to sources, the National Congress has responded to this request.

Pawar also offered to ally with Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi and Punjab and compromise seats now. Two top leaders of the Congress are said to have assured Pawar that they will start talks on seat compromise only after the polls of the five states are completed.
