Rampurhat Fire: Hindu Sena filed public interest case in SC; Calcutta HC ordered CBI investigation

News Desk: The Hindu Sena president has filed a public interest case, in connection with the Rampurhat incident, in the Supreme Court.

The petition states “After this incident, it is understood that the fundamental rights of the people of Bengal are being violated. Therefore, the Supreme Court should intervene in this case and set up a SIT headed by former justice. The Supreme Court should order CBI investigation”.

On the other hand, a division bench of the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court directed a CBI probe into the incident.

The investigation will be led by the Chief Justice. The SIT will not be able to take any further action in the interest of investigation. The arrested and suspects should be handed over to the CBI. The CBI will have to submit its preliminary report to the High Court by April 8.
