News Desk: When it comes to defending the Bharatiya Janata Party at the center and the state level, the Republic TV has always proved themselves as the main weapon of the ruling central government. Arnab Goswami has always been loud and clear when it comes to defaming the opposition parties of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The editor-in-chief is currently in a big rivalry with the chief minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray and his recent fight regarding TRP scam and Anvay Naik’s suicide has worsen things more. Goswami was arrested by the Maha cops earlier this month on charges of abetment to suicide case of Anvay Naik and got released on Wednesday. But backing Arnab Goswami has raised several questions and also revealed some darker sides of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party central government. In a way the editor-in-chief’s release backfired the BJP only. Let’s have a look at how his release affected the ruling central government.
No Freedom of Press in BJP ruling states
Union Home Minister Amit Shah slammed the Shiv Sena government on the day of Arnab’s arrest. He took to Twitter and said
“Congress and its allies have shamed democracy once again.
Blatant misuse of state power against Republic TV & Arnab Goswami is an attack on individual freedom and the 4th pillar of democracy.
It reminds us of the Emergency. This attack on free press must be and WILL BE OPPOSED”
Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ reacted to this tweet of Shah and said
“Many journalists have been arrested in Gujarat for writing against the government. In Uttar Pradesh, several journalists were killed. Nobody was reminded of Emergency then….the BJP should stop grieving for a ‘nautanki’.
An innocent man and his mother killed themselves. His wife is crying for justice. Police followed the law. The previous BJP government tried to suppress this matter even as the widow ran from pillar to post for the last two years. The suicide note was written by Anvay Naik clearly stated that he was not paid his dues and committed suicide due to that stress. His widow has now moved the court seeking re-investigation into the matter and the police have only acted accordingly.
Those claiming that this is an attack on the fourth pillar of democracy, are trying to uproot the first pillar of democracy.
It is ok even if a Marathi Manoos dies, the BJP thinks. It doesn’t care for the sons of the soil. The BJP leaders in Maharashtra should have actually fought for justice for Anvay Naik, because he is the son of this soil”
This statement of ‘Saamana’ also highlighted ‘No freedom of press‘, ‘No law and order‘ and ‘Tyrannical rule‘ in major BJP ruling states.
Supreme Court in favour of BJP
Release of Goswami also highlighted the role of Supreme Court under BJP rule. Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, who is heading the Bench, said
“People are now put in jail for a tweet… We are travelling through the path of destruction of liberty. You may not like his ideology. Left to myself, I will not watch his channel. But citizens are sent to jail, high courts don’t grant bail. We have to send a strong message.
We are deeply concerned. If this is how human liberty is persecuted, the Supreme Court has to be there for every person… We are getting cases for personal liberty in multitudes… Our democracy is extraordinarily resilient. Our point is governments should ignore them. You think what they say makes any difference in the elections?”
A section of the nation is against this decision of the Supreme Court and believe that the Supreme Court to some extent is in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Republic TV – a special channel of BJP
Now coming to the editor-in-chief itself, Goswami after his release has threatened chief minister Uddhav Thackeray. In his familiar TV newsroom environment surrounded by his relieved colleagues he said
“Uddhav Thackeray, listen to me. You lost. You have been defeated.
Uddhav Thackeray, you arrested me in an old, fake case and did not even apologize to me.
The game has just begun.
I will launch even from inside the jail and you won’t be able to do anything”
The strong statements made by Goswami paved a path to believe that Arnab is more a ‘BJP spokesperson than journalist’. It also made a section believe that the Republic TV is a special news channel of the Bharatiya Janata Party and they’ve been given excessive freedom.
